Guangzhou Customs cracked a case of smuggling beetles into China through the delivery channel and seized more than 200 beetles of various types.

Recently, Guangzhou Customs cracked a case of smuggling beetles into China through delivery channels, and seized more than 200 adults and larvae of various beetles, such as halberd rhinoceros beetle and giant flat knife spade beetle.

The customs officers of Guangzhou Post Office, which belongs to Guangzhou Customs, found that the image of a mail sent to Guangzhou was abnormal when they were supervising a batch of incoming mail. The name of the email is "Snacks", but the passing image shows that the items in the email are beetle-shaped. On-site customs officers immediately opened the mail and found that there were four glass bottles in it, each with a beetle and filled with wet sawdust and nutrients. These beetles are black all over, and some beetles have prominent forked horns on their heads, which look like rhinoceros horns. After being sent to a professional organization for identification, it is confirmed that the four beetles seized this time are all Satan rhinoceros turtles, belonging to the protected species listed in Appendix II of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).

Subsequently, Guangzhou Customs combined with the seizure of this case to conduct interception case analysis and control of key elements, and dig deep into the criminal chain behind the case. On December 7th, the anti-smuggling department of Guangzhou Customs investigated the recipients of smuggled "exotic pets" postal parcels, and seized more than 200 adult beetles, larvae and a batch of breeding tools, such as halberd rhinoceros beetle and giant flat-bladed spade beetle. The preliminary investigation found that the criminal suspect received the smuggled "exotic" postal parcels sent to Guangzhou by falsely reporting the name of the goods, artificially bred them in a warehouse in Guangzhou, and then sold them through the Internet platform for profit.
