Today, the world’s first 16 MW ultra-large offshore wind turbine has been successfully connected to the grid in Fujian offshore wind farm, which indicates that the R&D, manufacturing and operation capabilities of large offshore wind turbines in China have reached a new level and reached the international leading level.
With the slow rotation of three 123-meter-long blades, the world’s first 16 MW ultra-large offshore wind turbine successfully realized grid-connected power generation. The hub center of this 16 MW offshore wind turbine is 152 meters high, which is equivalent to the height of three Long March V carrier rockets. The sweeping area of the impeller is about 50,000 square meters, which is equivalent to the size of seven standard football fields. Compared with the 8 MW fan commonly used at sea at present, the sea area is saved by more than 35%. Under rated working conditions, this 16 MW offshore wind turbine can generate 34.2 kWh per revolution, and the annual power generation exceeds 66 million kWh, which can meet the domestic electricity consumption of 36,000 families of three for one year.

Lei Mingshan, Chairman of Three Gorges Group:The successful application of 16 MW offshore wind turbines has achieved a breakthrough in the core technology of offshore wind power industry chain, industrialization and localization of major equipment, promoted the upgrading of offshore wind power industry and greatly improved its overall capacity, and further promoted the sustainable development of China’s offshore wind power industry.
According to statistics, at present, nearly 60% of wind power equipment in the global market is produced in China. By the end of 2022, the cumulative installed capacity of global offshore wind power reached 57.6 GW, and that of China reached 30.51 GW, accounting for 53% of the global market share. The cumulative export capacity of wind power in China reached 11.93 million kilowatts, covering 49 countries and regions. The export of wind power equipment in China is growing rapidly.
