Xinhua News Agency, Lanzhou, October 30th Title: "Green Energy" Surges along the Yellow River.
Xinhua News Agency reporter Wang Mingyu
Lanzhou City, Gansu Province, which is located in the geometric center of China’s land territory, is the only provincial capital city where the Yellow River passes through the city, and it is also a heavy industry base in the upper reaches of the Yellow River. The Lanzhou section of the main stream of the Yellow River stretches for more than 150 kilometers, and more than 3 million people live by the water. Xu Yihong has a great responsibility to protect the An Lan of the Yellow River.
Once upon a time, Lanzhou’s industrial structure was biased, and the "lampblack economy" dominated by petroleum refining, tobacco and metallurgy. In recent years, the local authorities have seized the opportunity of ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River basin, vigorously promoted the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries and the cultivation of emerging industries, and a beautiful ecological picture of harmonious coexistence between cities and rivers has slowly unfolded.
In late autumn, the river runs. On the bank of the Yellow River, in the workshop of Lanzhou Petrochemical Company, I saw bags of milky white particles sealed and packed by workers, neatly packed, waiting to be transported to all parts of China.

These seemingly inconspicuous products are actually the company’s high-tech fist products. In the past, the raw materials of medical infusion bottles in China — — Polyolefin resin for medicine also depends on imports. Today, the medical material RP260 produced by Lanzhou Petrochemical Company has been widely used in about 80% domestic pharmaceutical enterprises. Since the 13th Five-Year Plan, Lanzhou Petrochemical Company has implemented 305 scientific and technological projects and developed more than 200 new materials and products.
The reporter learned that since the goal of "double carbon" was put forward, the western petroleum refining and chemical industry giant has accelerated the pace of transformation. Not long ago, the pre-feasibility study report of the company’s ethylene transformation project successfully completed the evaluation, and the million-ton ethylene project based on the general trend of "reducing oil and increasing oil" and the goal of "double carbon" at home and abroad has taken important steps.
In Lanzhou New District, the first national new district in northwest China, the cultivation of emerging industries also ran out of "acceleration". In the "specialized and innovative" chemical industry incubation base, there are rows of standardized factories. Entering Lanzhou Cuiying Isotope Material Co., Ltd., the researchers in the laboratory are absorbed, and the workers on the production line are busy in an orderly manner.
The deuterated material intermediates produced by this company are the upstream products of high-end mobile phone screens at home and abroad. "I didn’t expect that in just a few years, Lanzhou New District has formed a chemical industry cluster, which is comparable to the first-class chemical park in the eastern region." Gao Zhanghua, the technical director of the company, said that the scientific research resource base of Lanzhou University and the talent pool of other colleges and universities have provided a guarantee for the company to develop new materials.

Lanzhou has more than 1,200 scientific research institutions represented by Northwest Institute of Ecological Environment and Resources of China Academy of Sciences and Lanzhou University. In recent years, Lanzhou has accelerated the integration of scientific and technological resources, introduced various policies and measures, vigorously supported the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, and the development momentum of science and technology supporting industries has been growing.
According to statistics, at present, only in Lanzhou New District, more than 30 enterprises have established innovative R&D cooperation mechanisms with Chinese Academy of Sciences, Institute of Modern Physics, Lanzhou University and other universities and scientific research institutes, and more than 1,000 products have landed, of which 120 have broken the monopoly and replaced imports, 220 have been exported, 208 are leading the international market, and 116 products have a domestic market share of more than 50%, which are widely used in biopharmaceuticals, new energy and aviation.
Since the beginning of this year, Lanzhou New District has started 39 major projects with a total investment of 30.6 billion yuan. A large number of leading enterprises in the new energy field have accelerated their landing in Lanzhou New District, and a million-ton new energy battery material base in western China has accelerated its formation.
Zhang Youxian, a professor at the College of Resources and Environment of Lanzhou University, said that at present, based on advantageous location conditions and industrial raw material base, Lanzhou City has accelerated the upgrading and transformation of traditional industries and investment in research and development, and further enhanced the added value of the industry while saving energy and reducing consumption. At the same time, the agglomeration effect of emerging industries, such as green chemicals, new energy battery materials and biomedicine, has been continuously highlighted, and gradually formed a strong green development momentum.
